Jobs Are Changing. Is Your Workforce Ready?

INSPIRE EMPLOYEES TO SOAR

For years, we’ve been warned that AI is coming for our jobs. As artificial intelligence becomes more powerful, predictions range from massive job losses to a world where humans aren’t needed. But Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg sees a different future: AI creating a new era of innovation, prosperity, and work.

History gives us reason to believe him. A generation ago, jobs like app developer, social media creator, electric vehicle technician, and data center operator barely existed. Technology didn’t eliminate jobs—it created industries and careers we couldn’t have imagined. Zuckerberg believes AI will do the same.

However, that doesn’t mean the transition will be painless. Some jobs will disappear and others will change dramatically. If automation moves faster than people can develop new skills, workers could find themselves caught in the middle. That’s why reskilling is critical. Organizations need to prepare people now for the work that’s coming—not wait until their skills become obsolete.

AI also forces us to rethink the assumption that success requires a four-year degree. Higher education can leave people with debt without providing the skills employers need, while industries like the skilled trades struggle to find workers. In an AI economy, it will matter less where you went to school and more what you can learn, how quickly you can learn it, and what you do with that knowledge.

Ironically, AI itself could become one of our greatest learning tools. Zuckerberg envisions everyone having access to a personalized tutor and coach with extraordinary knowledge and unlimited patience. Employees could learn new skills when they need them, students could receive individualized help, and workers could continuously reinvent themselves throughout their careers.

So perhaps we’re asking the wrong question. Instead of “What jobs will AI take away?” we should ask, “What will AI make possible—and are we preparing people for it?” The organizations that win will use AI to make people more capable, valuable, and prepared for what comes next. The future of work isn’t bleak. It’s bright—but only if we prepare people for it.
