How to Recognize Remote Employees for Free

I don’t even have to speak with your employees to know what many are feeling right now: overworked, afraid of the unknown, Zoom fatigued, and disconnected. For these reasons, it has
never been a more important time for leaders and managers to express appreciation, and help employees feel appreciated, acknowledged, and quite honestly – loved. However, you have to
do it right for it to be effective.
According to Bersin & Associates, 87 percent of recognition programs focus on tenure. Yes, you heard that right. Employees are being rewarded for sticking around vs. adding value. The
problem with this is that recognition should focus on an employee’s contributions and efforts. Think about it… would you feel more proud if you received a reward for five years of service or
for doing an excellent job leading the team to a successful SAP system go live? I think we both know the answer.
While searching for the most effective ways to recognize people without breaking the bank, I discovered a Forbes article written by contributor Christopher Littlefield. Thank you,
Christopher, for getting it and for giving us a roadmap in the most uncertain of times.
- Call to “Just” Say Thank You
- Gift People Free Time
- Record An Unforgettable Group Thank You Video
- Send A Virtual Handwritten Thank You Note
- Ask Employees What They are Proud Of
JILL, WHAT CAN I DO? All of the above because I’m guessing you’ve never heard an employee say, “I’m disengaged because my manager recognizes me too much.” And, if you are
in Internal Communications or HR, package this content and share it with your managers. The result? Employees will view your supervisors as more effective leaders and be proud to work
for an organization that gets it.
